The Town of Snowmass Village is now accepting nominations for the second annual Snowmass Village Environmental Award, which recognizes organizations or businesses located or operating in the Village that have made a commitment to improving the natural environment through policies, programs, or actions.

The award, created by the Environmental Advisory Board, will consider actions or projects in the categories of energy conservation, water quality and/or conservation, and waste reduction and recycling.

"In a landscape like ours, the local economy is so dependent on the environment that many Snowmass businesses are doing a great deal to preserve natural resources," said Sally Sparhawk of the Environmental Advisory Board and former council member. "There are plenty of environmental success stories in Town that go unrecognized or unpublicized. Through this award we hope to bring these examples to light, and motivate others to follow suit."

Projects will be evaluated as much as possible on the quantifiable results that positively affect the environment. The Environmental Advisory Board will review all submitted nominations and consider the following criteria:

  • Success
  • Cost effectiveness
  • Applicability
  • Leadership
  • Visibility
  • Impact on the Town of Snowmass Village
  • Type of positive benefit

The application form and specific award criteria are available on the Town's website and will only be accepted electronically. The deadline for submission is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014.
