Fewer Restrictions, Same Responsibility – Prevent Wildfire

Town of Snowmass Village Media Releases Posted on September 12, 2025

Fire restrictions are lifted, but fire safety is year-round.

Pitkin County, in coordination with regional fire officials, has officially lifted Stage 1 Fire Restrictions following recent improvements in local conditions. While this is a positive step, wildfire danger never fully disappears in our region, and community-wide vigilance remains essential.

We ask for your support in continuing to share the importance of fire safety with your networks:

  • Be cautious with open flames – use designated fire rings or grills when available.
  • Fully extinguish all fires – drown with water, stir, and repeat until cold to the touch.
  • Avoid parking on dry vegetation – vehicle heat can spark fires.
  • Dispose of cigarettes properly – never discard them on the ground.
  • Stay informed – check PitkinEmergency.com for the latest fire safety guidance and emergency alerts.

Violations of fire safety rules can still result in fines between $500 and $1,000 and possible jail time under CRS 30-15-410 and Pitkin County Resolution 96. Even outside of stage restrictions, dry vegetation and unpredictable weather mean a small spark can quickly turn into a dangerous wildfire. By following these rules and using caution in all outdoor activities, we can protect our community, our lands, and our emergency responders.
