[ARCHIVED] The Sky is the Limit with the Town's POSTR Plan

Outdoors and recreation opportunities are just a couple of things that make Snowmass Village the great place it is to live, work, and play. However, the Town’s Parks, Open Space, Trails, and Recreation (POSTR) master plan hopes to take the community to the next level, and community members can help by attending a public workshop on Wednesday, February 17.

Since the fall of 2015, the Town has been working on the POSTR master plan, which will serve as a guide for the future development of Town parks, open space, trails, recreational facilities, and programs. Andy Worline, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Trails, and project manager describes the project as making the Town more fun with more recreational opportunities. “We know people in Snowmass Village go big when it comes to the outdoors and recreation. We want to make sure we are meeting that demand.”

By utilizing a steering committee of residents, conducting surveys, and other online tools, the POSTR plan has been evaluating the top priorities of the Town. “We’ve heard everything from ‘we need more beginner bike trails’ to ‘extended recreation center hours,’” Andy said. The Town is now ready to present some of these concepts to the public, which include ideas such as: a bike pump track/jump park, a dog park, a meandering ice rink path, more horse-friendly trails, interpretative nature walkways, performance stages, amphitheaters, more picnic areas, fitness challenge courses, interactive water features, green houses, natural playgrounds, playgrounds for adults, parklets, turf fields, educational gardens, pause places along trails, more public art, among others. Based on public comments, the Town is hoping to identify priorities for the future.

Get involved: The Town wants to hear from the community on how they envision the future of parks, open space, trails and recreation in Snowmass Village, and the public workshop on Wednesday, February 17th will be one opportunity to do so. Stop by the Recreation Center at anytime between 3:00 – 7:00pm to review the draft concepts and provide your input.
