May 12, 2014—Snowmass Village, Colo.—The Town of Snowmass Village is preparing for the USA Pro Challenge 2014 cycling race through community outreach and information, starting with scheduled neighborhood meetings.

Referred to as "America's Race," the USA Pro Challenge is the largest spectator event in the history of Colo. Featuring a challenging course, the fourth annual race will spotlight the best of the best in professional cycling and some of America’s most beautiful scenery.

Last week, the USA Pro Challenge announced the route for the 2014 race. Aspen and Snowmass Village were again selected to host the overall race start on August 18, 2014. The race route consists of a three-lap 22-mile circuit between Aspen and Snowmass Village, and features 2,300 ft. of climbing per lap, spectacular scenery, and prime viewing spots for race fans.

On each lap, riders will ascent up to Snowmass Village via Owl Creek Rd. then, they will descent down Brush Creek Rd. where they will turn onto Medicine Bow and continue on Upper Ranch Rd. to Juniper Hill Rd. A printer-friendly route map is available online

The race promises an exciting day for locals and visitors alike. But similar to the 2013 race, the event does have some community impacts in Snowmass Village. On Monday, August 18th, 1-5:30 p.m., there will be no vehicular traffic into or out of Snowmass Village (via Brush Creek Rd. or Owl Creek Rd.) with the exception of emergency vehicles. Other closures are in effect throughout the race route. Please review our neighbor notice for all race-day impacts.

The Town of Snowmass Village—in partnership with the USA Pro Challenge Local Organizing Committee—is hosting a series of neighborhood meeting to share information about lead up events, the race course, and impacts. Meetings are scheduled on the following dates:

  • Thursday, May 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 12th at 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday, July 18th at 4:00 p.m.

All meetings will be held in the Council Chambers at Snowmass Village Town Hall, 130 Kearns Rd.
