Snowmass, Colo.--April 2, 2014--The Snowmass Arts Advisory Board is calling on local artists within the Roaring Fork Valley to submit their sketches for the opportunity to be selected for a public art installation to improve the Town Park pedestrian tunnel (connecting the softball field to the soccer field).
SAAB is looking for original, unique, and creative designs using acrylic paint on concrete that depict Snowmass Village. The tunnel will be filled by a pathwork-style painting, blending various artists creations. Designs can be inspired by anything from landscapes to skiing, hiking, local historical, ranching, or your favorite events. Both literal and abstract design submissions are encouraged.
The Town Park tunnel is used in all seasons by bikers, cross country skiers, walkers, runners, children, adults, teens, and all patrons attending Jazz Aspen Snowmass, along with other well-attended summer events hosted at the location.
The following are age categories and the corresponding size of the painting space:
- 10-15 years old: One 2'7'' x 3' space
- 16-20 years old: One or two 2'7" x 3' space(s) horizontal or vertical
- 21 years and older: One, two, or four 2'7" x 3' space(s) horizontal or vertical
Acrylic paints (in basic colors) and cleaner will be provided along with paint brushes for the 10-15 year old group.
Artist Applications are available on our website. Please complete applications and submit to Barb Peckler by email, or in person at Snowmass Village Town Hall, 130 Kearns Rd.
Submitting artists will be notified by June 6, 2014 on the status of their application. The tunnel will be painted the week of June 20-27, as weather allows.
Town reserves all rights to refuse to allow any inappropriate art message or other expression on any design.
