August 19, 2014—Snowmass Village, Colo.—Approximately 9,000 athletes and spectators from around the country are coming to Snowmass Village September 6-7 for Tough Mudder Colo., a 10-12 mile obstacle course designed to test all-around strength, stamina, teamwork, and mental grit.

This event comes on the heels of an already record-breaking summer. According to Desti-Metrics occupancy reports, Snowmass Village occupancy in 2014 is up 30 percent in June and 21 percent in July over 2013.

“Our team and partners have been working really hard to program a great summer of events and we’re extremely pleased that the numbers reflect this effort,” said Fred Brodsky, acting director of Snowmass Tourism. “The season is far from winding down and we’ve extended the summer with Tough Mudder, a world class event that will introduce thousands of athletes to Snowmass Village for the first time.”

With numbers anticipated near 9,000 on Saturday, September 6, and 2,000 on Sunday, September 7, Tough Mudder will be Snowmass Village’s largest event of the summer, and one of the largest to date.

The obstacle course, designed to maximize variety, topography, and excitement, utilizes several town roadways, easements, and trails, resulting in several short-term community impacts such as traffic delays, limited parking, and trail closures.

On Saturday, September 6th from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, September 7th from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., residents can expect the following:

Traffic, Roads, and Parking

  • Local and bus traffic only on lower Carriage Way (from Burlingame Ln. to Wood Rd.). A detour will be in place to access the Upper Village.
  • Traffic delays at the intersections of Lower Faraway Rd. and Brush Creek Rd., and Owl Creek Rd. and Two Creeks Dr. Please drive carefully and pay attention to course marshals and safety officials.
  • One-way traffic with flaggers on Meadow Ranch, Gambel Way, Burnt Mountain Circle, and Upper Faraway Rd.
  • Parking in the Village will be extremely limited or unavailable during the event. Please respect parking signage and utilize free public transportation provided by the Village Shuttle.

Trails
The following trails are part of the Tough Mudder Course and will be closed during the above noted times for your safety.

  • Brush Creek Trail (from Creekside to Owl Creek)
  • Owl Creek Trail (to Two Creeks)
  • Wood Bridge Pedestrian Trail (a pedestrian detour will be in effect)
  • Ridge section of Tom Blake Trail
  • Vista Trail
  • Stark’s Powerline Trail
  • Village Bound

A full course map is available for download online. Motorists and trail users are asked to please obey signage and chose alternative routes for recreation to ensure a safe and secure race route.

“We’ve had a great experience all season long working with the community, local businesses, and our regional partners to put our best foot forward. Everyone plays a role in executing events safely, efficiently, and effectively,” Brodsky said. “That team effort is a big factor that attracts great events to the Village year-after-year.”
