[ARCHIVED] Snowmass Village Seeks Public Input on Bike Race

The Town of Snowmass Village seeks input from the local business and lodging community and residents to help evaluate the impacts, both positive and negative, that the USA Pro Cycling Challenge bike race had on the Town.

Aspen/Snowmass hosted the 2013 Stage 1 overall start on August 19th. The race route consisted of a three-lap 22-mile circuit between Aspen and Snowmass Village.

Room pick-up, marketing opportunities, and strengthening a partnership with the City of Aspen were key reasons why both the Marketing, Special Events, & Group Sales Board and Snowmass Village Town Council unanimously supported funding the race at the amount of $112,700 (a full breakdown of costs is available on the Town's website).

Now, the Town seeks public input to determine what the town should consider moving forward if the event is pursued in the future.

For Businesses and Lodges
Snowmass Village businesses and lodges are asked to complete a brief online survey to share information on how the event impacted your business. The survey can be accessed here.

For Individuals Living and Working in Snowmass Village
An online discussion forum on the Town's website asks community members to voice their opinion on the USA Pro Challenge, whether the benefits outweighed the impacts, and what considerations should be taken in the future. The discussion can be accessed here.

Feedback gathered will be presented to Council through the Town Manager's Report at the regular Town Council meeting on September 23, 2013. As with all Town Council meetings, members of the community are invited to voice their opinion during public non agenda items.

"To date, we've fielded less than a hand full of phone calls from members of the community with compliments or concerns about the event," said Kelly Vaughn, director of communications for the Town of Snowmass Village. "These tools allow us to gather more quantifiable feedback that can guide our decisionmaking, and help us determine--if given the opportunity to participate in the USA Pro Challenge in the future--how the event can be refined to maximize the benefits and minimize the impacts to Snowmass Village."
