Seasonal lighting cutoffs in Snowmass Village begin Feb. 1

Town of Snowmass Village Media Releases Posted on January 30, 2026

The Town of Snowmass Village reminds the community that restrictions on seasonal lighting in residential areas begin Sunday, Feb. 1, with restrictions in commercial areas beginning Wednesday, April 1.

The updated regulations allow seasonal lighting annually from Nov. 15 to Jan. 31 in residential areas and from Nov. 15 to March 31 in commercial areas.

Adopted by the Town of Snowmass Village Council in 2025 and taking effect Sept. 17, the restrictions make continued illumination outside the allowable timeframes a violation of the Town’s Land Use Code.

As part of the Town Council’s strategic initiatives to preserve and protect the environment, the regulations are intended to deter light pollution, reduce wildlife attractants, and decrease unnecessary energy use. Additionally, lights wrapped around trees can constrict growth and cause long-term damage.

The Town enforces seasonal-lighting violations on a complaint basis. Individuals submitting complaints must identify themselves and file a formal complaint in writing. Infractions can lead to a Municipal Court summons.
