A great summer of cycling continues in Aspen/Snowmass with two of the biggest events coming up soon: the Gran Fondo Italia and USA Pro Challenge--plus plenty of exciting lead-up events.

The Gran Fondo Italia: Sunday, August 10th
Cyclists of all abilities can experience the best of Italian-style cycling with classic Colorado routes through Aspen, Snowmass and the surrounding region. Finish your ride with a spectacular hill-climb up switchbacks into beautiful Snowmass Village. - See more at: http://www.gosnowmass.com/event/gran-fondo-italia/#sthash.MP45JRFI.dpuf
Cyclists of all abilities can experience the best of Italian-style cycling with classic Colorado routes through Aspen, Snowmass and the surrounding region, finishing up in Snowmass Village.

Participants ride 95 or 45 mile courses with a combined mass start at the base of Snowmass Village, complete with the Italian style start celebration and escorted lead-outs. Alexi Grewal, the 1984 Olympic gold medalist in road racing, will be with riders on the starting line.

View course routes and register on their website.

Snowmass Village residents, we're not anticipating any major impacts from the event but please drive cautiously around cyclists on the road, and limited parking at the Snowmass Center's lower lot (the location of the race finish).

USA Pro Challenge: Monday, August 18 - Tuesday, August 19
Colorado's most popular spectator event returns to Aspen/Snowmass for the overall race start on Monday, August 18th. The world's top riders will complete three 22-mile laps between Aspen and Snowmass Village, conquering 2,300 ft. of climbing per lap. Learn more about the event on aspensnowmassupc.com

The race promises an exciting day for locals and visitors alike. But similar to the 2013 race, the event does have some community impacts in Snowmass Village.
  • On Monday, August 18th, 1-5 p.m., there will be no vehicular traffic into or out of Snowmass Village (via Brush Creek Rd. or Owl Creek Rd.) with the exception of emergency vehicles. Other closures are in effect throughout the race route. Please review our neighbor notice for all race-day impacts.
  • On August 19th, starting at approximately 10:30 a.m., expect up to 30 minute delays on Highway 82 from Aspen to Carbondale.
Pre-race activities start as early as Friday the 15th and include community rides, welcome and opening ceremonies, and live music. View a full calendar of events.
