Base Village: What’s Been Done and What’s Coming Up

Posted on July 30, 2014 at 4:37 PM by Kelly Vaughn

As public meetings continue on the future of Base Village, here’s an overview of what’s been accomplished to date, and what’s coming up.

What’s Been Done
Pre Sketch Plan Meetings
In May and June, Snowmass Acquisition Company, LLC (SAC) held three pre-sketch plan meetings with the Planning Commission and Town Council to discuss their next steps to get the Base Village development back on track. This series of “non-binding” meetings aimed to increase communications and set the foundation for future applications.

Application Received

On June 30, SAC submitted an application for a Minor PUD Amendment for Base Village that includes a request to extend the initial vesting rights for five years. To maintain these rights, the applicant proposes a series of conditions or “milestones” that would need to be met. Upon receiving the application, Town staff provided a staff review in preparation for the July 23rd Planning Commission meeting. This staff review is available in the Planning Commission packet on our website.

Initial Planning Commission Review
On Wednesday, July 23rd the Planning Commission started their review of SAC's PUD Amendment application. At this meeting, discussions and questions laid the foundation for their next meeting coming up on Wednesday August 6th, where the Commission plans to formalize their recommendations to the Town Council. Learn more about this meeting via subsequent coverage in the Aspen Times and Aspen Daily News.

What’s Coming Up
Continued Planning Commission Review
The Planning Commission is scheduled to continue their review of SAC’s application at their August 6th meeting at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers. Pending a vote and decision on their recommendation to the Town Council, the application will then come before the Town Council.

Base Village Public Hearing/First Reading of Ordinance
On Monday, August 18th at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers, a Public Hearing and first reading of ordinance will be held before the Town Council. The public is invited to attend and comment. This will be part of the regular Town Council meeting, and the agenda/packet will be published several days prior on our website (sign up to receive automatic notifications by text or email when agendas or added here).
